2024 COURSE SCHEDULE

EVALUATIONS & SWIM PREP

FOR RED CROSS LIFEGUARD COURSE

Evaluations: everyone who takes this course must pass the evaluation.
The evaluation takes approximately 30 minutes.  Students must come to any one scheduled evaluation, but are welcome to attend others as additional opportunities to practice and improve.

Swim Prep: is optional for those who pass the evaluation, and is offered to anyone who wants to take this course as a way to improve swim skills, practice and to possibly help pass the evaluation

Please note: if someone does not know how to swim freestyle (crawl) it is unlikely that in the amount of time allotted that he/she will be able to pass the evaluation for this course but may be able to learn for a future course

(if you arrive late you may not have time to finish the evaluation - be ready to get in the water at 12:00 noon)

If you cannot attend any of the above scheduled evaluations and are seriously committed to taking this course, contact us to see if we can possibly schedule an additional one.

RED CROSS POOL /BAYFRONT

LIFEGUARD COURSE

FULL COURSE INCLUDES: Lifeguard Course (Classroom & Pool), online material (Blended Learning) + 1 CPR / AED with First Aid class 

 

BLENDED LEARNING: There is online material you are responsible to read & review. All Blended learning must be completed before the course begins:   After you sign up, and approximately weeks

before the beginning of the course you will get a link to the Blended Learning

Red Cross Lifeguard Training & Certification Course
PRE-REQUISITE REQUIREMENTS

EVALUATION

Participants must:

  • Be 15 years of age by the last day of class 

Pool Lifeguards:

 

  • SWIM • TREAD • SWIM (sequence without rest)

    • Jump in, submerge, resurface

    • Swim 150 yards continuously (front crawl & breaststroke - 100 yards each in total swim) 
    • Tread water using only legs for 2 minutes
    • Swim 50 yards continuously (continued front crawl & breaststroke) 

  • Perform the diving brick test within 1 minute 40 seconds

(goggles not allowed)

  • Surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet

  • Retrieve the 10 lb diving brick

  • Swim back to the starting point using legs only - 20 yards

  • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps

Bayfront / Waterfront Lifeguards

 

  • SWIM • TREAD • SWIM (sequence without rest)

    • Jump in, submerge, resurface

    • Swim 350 yards continuously (front crawl & breast stroke - min 200 yards crawl, 100 yards breaststroke)  

    • Tread water using only legs for 2 minutes

    • Swim 150 yards continuously (continued front crawl & breaststroke)

  • Perform the diving brick test within 1 minute 40 seconds

(goggles not allowed)

  • Surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet

  • Retrieve the 10 lb diving brick

  • Swim back to the starting point using legs only - 20 yards

  • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps

  • Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 to 7 feet of water, resurface and continue to swim another 5 yards to complete the skill sequence

 - in 2 min

INITIAL EVALUATIONS - SWIMMING SKILL LEVEL

Participants must be evaluated for swimming skills before beginning this Training.

CPR

CPR - Red Cross CPR is part of this Lifeguard course 

*to complete the course you must come to 1 Red Cross CPR certification class

All SVOR Members can also sign up for any CPR class given by SVOR without taking the Red Cross LG course - More CPR DATES COMING SOON

 

All Lifeguards in New York must certify ANNUALLY for CPR 

FEES:  $250 • RED CROSS POOL / BAY STILL WATER LIFEGUARD COURSE includes CPR

 

All FEES ARE COVERED FOR ACTIVE SVOR MEMBERS, SOUTHAMPTON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS & COOPERS LIFEGUARDS
